The one thing I find troubling about personas is the utter lack of representation of disabilities. To paraphrase Jessica Rabbit, they aren’t bad, they are just written that way. Personas are rarely given any medical conditions that might interfere with their ability to use the product. This is an ableist approach which results in a product that is usually inaccessible and not usable by a significant portion of the population (at 18 %, people with disabilities are the largest minority in the US). I did write an article on this on medium about my approach to solving this issue, but I don’t want to spam your wall with my work, just wanted to provide my thoughts on something that I think is generally missing.
